Men and Women in HEELS (Health.Education.Environment.Livelihood.Shelter.)
“In our health center, there are 30 to 40 childbirths a month. My role is to assist mothers during admission, give information on pre-natal and post-natal care, promote family planning, teach them how to properly breastfeed their newborns and introduce them to complementary feeding later on. I think it is important to equip them with the knowledge and skills in taking care of their babies and other members of their families, and to know about good health and nutrition. Coordination with other agencies and partners strengthen relationships and referrals. It enhances our program on good health and nutrition for mothers and babies, and helps trace clients who are not visiting the health center,” —ELYNOR LINO, a barangay health worker at the Smokey Mountain Health Center and Lying-in Clinic which is a PBSP partner institution
