NO MORE LEAKS, STUDENTS GOT NEW SCHOOLBUILDING FROM METROBANK

Omar Cadi, Grade VI student of Pebpoloan Elementary School; still recalls how he and his classmates would run and seek shelter every time it rains due to leaking roof in their makeshift classroom. “We would run and take shelter in the kinder garten’s classroom when it rains,” he said in his speech before representatives from Metrobank and education officials gathered for the turn-over event.

“Today, I am humbled because I was tasked to speak before you in behalf of my classmates; to thank you for this wonderful opportunity. Our dream of having a nice classroom has been realized,” Omar said in Filipino.

Alexander Untal, Area Head for Metrobank Mindanao Area IV, expressed optimism that with supportive community, student beneficiaries will achieve their goals in life. “In behalf of Metrobank, we hope that the four classrooms we turn-over today shall be a beacon of hope that will lead our students both in Pebpoloan Elementary School and Tamontaka Central School; to dream big and aspire more than they can imagine,” Untal emphasized in his message.

Bank employees gave personal contributions to help fund the construction of the school buildings. Funds raised by the employees were matched by a donation from Metrobank to help bankroll total cost of construction.

Implemented by the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP), the Metrobank Build-A-Classroom Project aims to assist the Department of Education in addressing classroom crisis in the country. At least 24 classrooms are to be built in 9 public schools in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, directly benefitting 1,080 students upon implementation.
