PBSP members pooling fund for flood relief efforts
MANILA – Businesses belonging to the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) will be chipping in money to fund relief efforts for flood victims, its chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan said on Thursday.
Pangilinan said PBSP convened last Wednesday its corporate social responsibility council to come up with ways to help those affected by widespread flooding caused by torrential rains that pounded Metro Manila and many parts of Luzon for several days.
“Basically, what we will do would be to raise internal money from the group in order to procure food items, clothing, and deliver them to the flood victims,” Pangilinan told reporters.
Pangilinan, who also chairs TV5, said PBSP has as well pledged to extend financial support to the relief efforts of TV5’s Alagang Kapatid Foundation. InterAksyon.com is the online news portal of TV5.
According to its website, PBSP has over 230 corporate members, which “contribute millions of pesos” annually to finance poverty-reduction projects.
PBSP claims that it “provides the largest financial assistance for poverty reduction among NGOs,” as it has “about P1 billion to invest in education, health, livelihood and the environment.” — By: Ben Arnold O. De Vera, InterAksyon.com.
