Leading multinational chocolate makers The Hershey Company recently donated medical equipment to the National Children’s Hospital (NCH). This philanthropic act aligns Hershey’s CSR project to the Millennium Development Goal No.4 which aims to help reduce infant and under-five mortality rates. One of the reasons for the high occurrence of infant and child mortality is due to lack of hospital equipment. The top 3 causes of death among pediatric patients are bronchopneumonia, acute lymphocyctic leukemia, and sepsis neonatorum. NCH is a public hospital that serves those who cannot afford to pay for private hospitalization and medication. In coordination with NCH and the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP), The Hershey Company, with its employees’ contribution, provided highly-needed medical equipment such as blood pressure apparatus, resuscitation bags, laryngoscope, pulse oximeter, ECG machine, and emergency carts. Last year, Hershey’s CSR project donated 1 unit of IV infusion pump and 8 units of suction machines to the hospital’s charity ward.
