Telstra Foundation Philippines, in partnership with Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) recently conducted the ninth session of an 11-day boot camp for senior high school (SHS) students of Pasay City South High School in Pasay City. The activity aims to encourage students to pursue careers in the Science and Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines, which is a critical need today in industrialized and industrializing nations.

The boot camp is part of Telstra’s STEM (Science and Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Assistance program which supports the Department of Education’s STEM curriculum through the provision of facilities and equipment as well as the conduct of workshops and hands-on lessons that enhance the learning of students in these fields of discipline. Telstra’s program also trains STEM teachers to help them acquire the necessary skills to effectively teach the curriculum. Apart from the construction of science laboratories, it also provides supplies and materials for the STEM curriculum.

Telstra’s STEM Assistance Program and its other education interventions in schools also support PBSP’s Bayanihang Pampaaralan initiative which enables SHS graduates to be fit for work, ready for college or entrepreneurship.
