Using technology to strengthen disaster prevention and response for urban poor communities
Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) collaborated with Australian AID – Philippine – Australian Community Assistance Program (PACAP) and the Asia Foundation (TAF) to build the capacities of urban poor communities on disaster risk reduction and climate change mitigation.
The project, entitled Strengthening Disaster Prevention and Response for Safe and Resilient Urban Poor Communities, aims to empower communities and strengthen local partnership on Disaster Risk Reduction Management (DRRM).
PBSP as proponent implements the project in Barangay Catmon in Malabon City and Barangay Bangkulasi in Navotas City, which will be benefiting 580 and 170 households respectively.
The InfoBoard, powered by PBSP member-company Smart Communications Inc., was installed and customized to help local government units quickly disseminate important information to the barangay level during times of disaster. The InfoBoard serves as an early warning device to provide residents with the necessary safety precautions.
