Translating numbers to inclusive growth

Inclusive development is achievable, Rafael Lopa says of the challenge put forward by Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle to the country’s business leaders recently. But it’s a work in progress that needs “endurance” and “review” of the current business models.

In his keynote speech at the 44th Annual Membership Program of the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) last January 27, Cardinal Tagle asked the business community to “let the inclusion of the poor permeate the houses” of their enterprises.

The message comes at an opportune time, with the nation still high from the fervor brought about by the Papal Visit. Business leaders were asked to include the poor in the companies’ mission and vision—and not just as an “appendix”, as the Cardinal puts it.
