Cathay Pacific, partners donate more books for library

Cathay Pacific Airways, U freight Philippines and Transglobal Consolidators, with the collaboration of the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) recently brought Christmas cheer as well as fun learning to the students of Poo Elementary School on Olango Island, LapuLapu City.

After building the first library on the island and turning it over in June 2014, the team was back in December to fill the library with books collected from the airline’s staff during a monthlong collection drive at their Hong Kong headquarters. There was also a book donation solicited from the Rotary Club of Cebu West, as well as loot bags and gifts donated by Transglobal Consolidators and Ufreight Philippines.

Leading the group were Cathay PacificCebu manager Jasmine Chan, Ufreight’s Jeff Bajao and Transglobal Consolidators’ Jhan Satorre.

“It is a blessing for us to be able to share what we have around the Cathay Pacific network with Olango. We believe in developing our local communities alongside the business. We hope that the children of Olango will be inspired by the wisdom in the books and as they grow up, build a beautiful future for Olango, Cebu and the Philippines,” said Chan in a speech.

The HongKong based airline plans to make a second collection of books from their staff in the United Kingdom and United States.

School principal Zenaida Abrasada said that the students have been enjoying the library since the turnover in June and will definitely spend more time there, now that there are even more books to read.
