Dream big

Peer to peer participants are divided into smaller groups to facilitate the sharing and lessons.

Preparing young students for the future by unlocking their full potentials.

In partnership with Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP), Petron recently conducted another BUCB leadership and life skills development activity at the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP) in Ortigas Center, Pasig City.

With the theme “Star Struck (Dream, Believe, Thrive),” the sessions sought to equip fourth year (Grade 10) Tulong Aral scholars with options and opportunities they could explore after high school, guided with the values of pagmamahal sa katotohanan (love for truth), paggalang (respect), pananampalataya sa Panginoon (faith in God), and pagmamahal sa kawang-gawa (love for charity).

The ates and kuyas (older sisters and brothers) from The Outstanding Students of the Philippines (TOSP) served as mentors and role models to the young participants and led exciting activities with equally amusing titles like Dreamy, Dream Me; Dream Up; StarTalks!; and Believing You, Believe in U. Each of the activities was designed to help the students assess their current situation and start preparing them for their future by teaching them to weigh their options while considering their personal passions.

“Don’t be afraid to proclaim your dream,” said flight attendant Ate Cherry, as a message to the student participants.

Ate Gelle, an engineer for a cruise ship, on the other hand, asked the students to think hard with her question, “Why do we need to explore ourselves and why do we need to know our dreams?” One of the students, Elizabeth, gave the most convincing answer: “Because in the future, we will be the ones to pursue our dreams.”

The BUCB is conducted annually and is designed uniquely for every level as part of the Tulong Aral Program activities. Now on its 7th year, PBSP has been implementing the Program for Petron Foundation and currently has 449 scholars from 22 schools in Metro Manila.
