Messengers of Humanity: Rommel D. Mercado, RN
As we celebrate World Humanitarian Day this month, we honor the people we work with in reducing poverty in the Philippines. They are our Messengers of Humanity:
“Whenever I do field work, I get to see firsthand the human side of various social problems beyond its statistics — be it on a lola who cries helplessly for her 16-year-old, pregnant granddaughter; a family who lost their barong-barong in a storm; or through an abandoned, mentally challenged individual with tuberculosis. Sometimes, it is truly heartbreaking to know how huge the tasks are and yet we can only do so much. But I try to gather strength in situations because I know, more than the material things or technical assistance that we offer, we bring hope,” said Rommel D. Mercado, RN, Regional Portfolio Coordinator for Health.
Mr. Mercado, a nurse, has been working at Philippine Business for Social Progress’ Luzon’s Regional Center for 5 years.
