Project New Dawn Update: Mercury Drug Foundation to provide potable water systems for Cebu island barangays
CLEAN AND SAFE WATER FOR ALL. PBSP employees with Mercury Drug Foundation Inc. representative Bernadette Dizon hold a consultative meeting with the housewives of Barangay Kaongkod, Madridejos, Cebu. The meeting aims to help PBSP and Mercury Drug determine the type of potable water system the community needs for its daily activities.
In support to PBSP’s Project New Dawn efforts, Mercury Drug Foundation, Inc. will provide seven level 2 potable water systems in the barangays of Northern Cebu, particularly in Bantayan Island.
Potential sites identified for the project, which costs more than PHP 1.7 million, are barangays Pooc and Langub of Santa Fe; barangays Sungko and Sillon of Bantayan; and barangays Maalat, Pili and Kaongkod of Madridejos. The water systems are set to completed and turned over on September 2014.
During the launching of Project New Dawn, Mercury Drug Foundation was among the organizations who initially pledged to support the effort. In addition to Mercury Drug Foundation’s assistance, there are 15 additional water systems to be provided with funding support from Give2Asia, Dow Chemical Pacific Ltd., and PBSP Trustee Jose Antonio Aboitiz.
Aside from the provision of water systems, PBSP’s Project New Dawn initiatives also include corn production for 50 farmers, provision of PHP 10,000 worth of fishing gears for 50 fishermen, and establishment of a PHP 0.75 million livestock project for 50 farmers, which are all set to be completed this month.
