L’Oreal, PBSP to build disaster-resilient classrooms in Leyte

GROUNDBREAKING. L’Oreal Philippines Managing Director Rowel Viajandre (center) leads the groundbreaking of two one-storey two classroom school buildings in Tanauan, Leyte.

As part of the company’s commitment to support education in the country, L’Oreal Philippines broke ground for the construction of two one-storey, two-classroom school buildings in Tugop Elementary School (ES) of Tanauan, Leyte.

The project is part of L’Oreal Philippines’ Project Bangon Tugop: L’Oreal Classroom Reconstruction Project in Haiyan Affected Areas. Tugop ES, which has a total enrolment of 201 students, was identified by PBSP through the Department of Education’s Adopt-a-School Program.

Present in the activity were L’Oreal Philippines Managing Director Rowel Vijandre, PBSP Visayas Regional Center Director Jessie Cubijano, Tugop ES Principal Jayson Gaduena and other representatives and officials from DepEd.

The classrooms, to be turned over on October this year, are designed to withstand a 5.2-magnitude earthquake and a wind speed of 250 kilometers per hour. Each building will feature roof decks, washrooms, ramps to assist children with disabilities, and school desks and chairs.
