Lear Corporation inspires learning of students through reading by providing learning resource centers (LRC) to three schools in Cebu’s Olango Island: Tingo, Caubihan, and Caohagan Elementary schools. Proceeds of the project are taken from the Balik-Baterya program, a partnership initiative between Philippine Business for Social Progress and Motolite which intends to encourage proper disposal of used lead acid batteries (ULAB) donated by companies and recycle them into useful materials.
Lear Corporation has been a corporate partner of the program since 2008. Through its ULAB donations, the company has raised more than PHP 600,000 and provided LRCs to 13 schools which cater to 18,000 students in Lapu-lapu City. LRCs take the form of mini-libraries that include tables, chairs and shelves filled with books and other supplementary instructional materials.
